We have included some common questions you might have along with answers below. For detailed information on ISBN-13, visit the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) website.
What is ISBN-13?
As of January 1, 2007, the International Standards Organization (ISO) is changing the length of the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) from 10 digits to 13 digits in order to keep up with the increasing number of published books and electronic media.
All non-subscription products published on January 1, 2007 and after will be assigned a 13-digit ISBN. Products published prior to January 1, 2007 will retain the original 10-digit ISBN but will also be assigned a 13-digit ISBN.
What has Lippincott Williams & Wilkins done?
Lippincott Williams & Wilkins has already taken steps to ensure the transition is a smooth one for its customers. We are working with our retail and wholesale distributors to begin using 13-digit product identifiers when transacting business with them. All of our systems and processes currently using a 10-digit ISBN will be modified to accommodate a 13-digit ISBN. All catalogs, price sheets, invoices, etc. will be changed to reflect the new 13-digit ISBNs.
Will I be able to search stedmans.com for products using both ISBNs?
Yes. You will be able to search stedmans.com for products using both the 10-digit and the 13-digit ISBNs.
How will stedmans.com change?
Previously, we displayed the 10-digit ISBN on the upper right area of the product pages:
Now, for all non-subscription products, we have displayed two ISBNs: a 10-digit ISBN and a 13-digit ISBN. Each non-subscription product will be recognized by both ISBNs when you perform searches:
Once the industry has completely converted to the new system, we will begin to display only 13-digit ISBNs. |
